Supply Chain Resource List
As an MBA student, there will be various resources available to learn about global supply management. As you get started on the assignments of this course, you will need to utilize many resources to validate your research. There will be five resources I will recommend, but many will be available to you within the university’s library. The five resources provided will assist you in understanding the concepts of supply chain management and illustrate current trends. The concepts of the course are:
- Identify the elements that make up a supply chain.
- Outline and describe the challenges of creating and coordinating a supply chain.
- Explain in detail what role a supply chain has in the success of a business.
- Recommend a framework for supply chain management.
- Analyze contemporary trends and issues in effective supply chain management (Capella University, 2022).
Major Takeaways
One of the major trends in supply chain management is taking the pandemic experience and dissecting the breakdowns in the system to reduce future errors. The major factors are the fluctuation of supply due to the pandemic, supply inconsistencies, and lack of materials (Okorie et al., 2020). The supply inconsistencies and lack of materials were closely related as the supply cannot be on hand if there is a lack of materials to create the products.
Resource 1
The Harvard Business Review website is a resource that provides current trends. The article provides insight into the concept of overcoming the pandemic and how best to prepare supply chain frameworks for future pandemics. A global pandemic such as COVID-19 shut down supply chains, revealing many weaknesses. These weaknesses provided an opportunity to strengthen supply chains. Understanding these weaknesses will provide students with a competitive edge entering the workforce.
The pandemic created a need to create more resilient supply chains without jeopardizing their competitiveness (Shih, 2020). This article provides tools to identify vulnerabilities in a company’s supply chain, ideas on diversifying products, utilizing process innovations, and considering stock inventory (Shih, 2020). This resource will assist in the competency of analyzing contemporary trends and issues in effective supply chain management as well as recommending a framework for supply chain management.
Resource 2
This resource comes from Forbes and discusses supply chain collaboration networks (SCCN). This is another trend in supply chain management. SCCN provides a solution that is collaborative for supply chain processes designed on a public cloud (Banker, 2022). The lack of predictability leads to the issues within supply chain processes. The article is a good resource for students to determine breakdowns in the supply chain process and management as well as allowing them to pull out the context of more current trends. Furthermore, it allows for students to develop their own problem-solving skills. This resource aligns with the competency of analyzing contemporary trends and issues in effective supply chain management.
Resource 3
In the Research Policy Journal, an article was published that offers a different framework regarding the role of suppliers of services and goods (Delgado & Mills, 2020). The article discusses the difference in supply chain industries compared to business-to-consumer industries. Utilizing this article, students will be able to identify the role supply chain management plays in the national economic performance as well as national innovation, using a recommended framework. This resource will align with the competency of explaining in detail what role a supply chain has in the success of a business as well as recommending frameworks for supply management.
Resource 4
A framework geared towards a more sustainable global value chain in the future designed for continuous improvements is outlined in this article (Magableh, 2021). It explores the worldwide effect the pandemic produced on supply chains. There are detailed trends listed to determine how the framework was developed. The value of this resource for students is it gives future design frameworks to allow for continuous changes as issues arise. The competency that this resource covers is explaining in detail what role a supply chain has in the success of a business as well as recommending frameworks for supply management, along with analyzing contemporary trends and issues in effective supply chain management.
Resource 5
This resource outlines, in detail, the elements of supply chain success. The traditional resources for supply chain management are listed. The elements are manufacturing, warehousing, inventory distribution and management, sales, and delivery (Kulwiec, 2000). The article discusses a framework where traditional supply chains are bypassing steps to sell direct. The students will gain traditional elements of supply chains, while gaining knowledge of early transformations of supply chains. This will allow them to think deeper into how the pandemic disrupted the traditional elements and the comparison of the bypassing framework, with new trends and adjustments we have seen since the pandemic. This resource will contribute to all the course competencies outlined.
Reflection
The resources provided are examples that can be used to relay the knowledge gathered in the course to meet the competencies. Students can utilize these resources as a base to complete the course, but also apply the context to current and future professional goals. Providing resources that pertain to current day situations will engage students in the course as they are able to correlate the information learned with situations they experience. These resources demonstrate my philosophical approach to teaching which is a combination of a student-centered approach, as every person learns differently, and active learning.
