Conversation Concept Lab
NURS 615 Assignment 3.1 lab develops clinical communication skills in adolescent patient contexts. Students practice risk assessment, therapeutic questioning, and EHR documentation skills.
For the communication thought lab, our affected individual was Rachel Adler. She was a 16-year-old lady who came to the health center volunteering for an annual physical aside from previous medical records (Shadow Health, n.d.). She claimed to have developed a peanut hypersensitivity that was not life-threatening. She reported that she never needed to be hospitalized, and her signs and symptoms had been moderate. She denied any hypersensitive reactions. She insisted that she used no illegal drugs or alcohol. She mentioned her parents drinking a pitcher of wine here and there. She was prepared to acknowledge that, in spite of her advanced age, she had tried cigarettes before. She stated that she had smoked three whole cigarettes, and it was within a social group, together with her friends. She said that she is never smoking again and knows the risk that smoking can also pose to her health. She knew the importance of not smoking again. Smoking is a risk factor for the development of emphysema (Zhai et al., 2024). Rachel was aware of this risk factor and told that everybody needs to know about the risk of smoking.

In this thinking laboratory, it was very educational to review the records that were already provided. The laboratory provided some of the information on the kind of questions to pose and how to invite them. It was said to invite open questions first, then numerical questions, and utilize certain or no questions to follow up on facts that were already provided soon. Personally, this has made me identify even as to how to pose unique questions. In seeking to get crucial facts from the victim, it is highly needed to understand when and how to inquire about something. Communication between a patient and healthcare provider is vital because it involves human fitness, and with excellent interactions come excellent results (Alijanzadeh et al., 2023). The lab helped me devise a procedure that allowed me to convey my message in a way that would enable my victim to answer the question honestly.
