Professional Aims and Proposed Practicum Objectives

During this discussion, my professional aims include gaining advanced proficiency in psychiatric-mental health nursing practice, enhancing collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams as well as refining my therapeutic skills across the lifespan. I will also present the proposed practicum objectives and seek feedback from the preceptor regarding their alignment with the practicum goals.

Nursing and Counseling Theories

To guide my clinical practice, I will select the Self-Care Deficit Nursing Theory by Dorothea Orem as my nursing theory and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) as my counseling theory.

Self-Care Deficit Nursing Theory

This theory emphasizes the importance of self-care activities in maintaining optimal health and well-being (Hartweg & Metcalfe, 2022). As a psychiatric nurse practitioner, I believe this theory will guide my practice by promoting patient autonomy through interventions that enhance self-care abilities. By assisting patients in identifying and meeting their self-care needs, I aim to promote mental health recovery and improve overall quality of life among patients. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

CBT is a widely recognized and evidence-based psychotherapy approach which focuses on identifying and modifying dysfunctional thoughts, emotions, and behaviors (Gautam et al., 2020).
