World War II brought long essential changes to American society, some being profound while others were trivial. One of the most important changes regarded the increase of war industries which sparked urban growth since people would migrate from the farms to seek employment in the urban areas.[1] As a result, most states’ populations grew immensely. For example, in a state like Detroit, its population grew due to the presence of the automotive industry, which increased its production by manufacturing war vehicles.[2] Also, approximately 2 million other citizens moved to California to become defense industry workers. That means America experienced a decline in consumer goods production and an increase in war supplies production and military vehicles. As a result, most American companies indulged more in gun production and other military equipment World War II Effect On American Society Essay Paper.
After World War II, society incorporated women in war activities, a notion that had never been experienced before. As a result, World War II shifted the women’s role towards working on home fronts and were part of the team that would help in war efforts and shows patriotism.[3] For instance, by 1945, various army groups were formed, including Women Army Corps, Navy Nurses Corps, Coast Guard, and the Marines. In these women army groups, women would either assume non-combat jobs or the traditional nursing roles. During that time, married women outnumbered single women as employees since over 6.3 percent women joined the army during the war[4]. That means World War II shifted the conventional societal image of a woman’s place. For instance, Rosie the Riveter is a great symbol of a redefined American woman who abandoned her traditional occupation to be part of the defense industry.
World War II greatly impacted the criminal justice system since women also had a part to play in the sector. For a long time, women have been fighting for gender equality in all sectors. In criminal justice, gender-based discrimination mainly occurs when women are accessing justice.[5] However, the number of women in the criminal justice department worldwide is increasing. In the United States, despite having approximately half the American population, the law enforcement officers are fewer. Hence, the engagement of the recidivism reduction without parole supervision policy will ensure that all offenders receive equal treatment without discrimination. That is because the policy upholds the 14th Amendment Clause that protects all American citizens regardless of their condition.[6] Also, the mass production of warfare has increased rates of violent crimes since criminals can easily access warfare artifacts like guns, thus endangering the whole society.[7] However, the intervention can easily change these violent criminals’ behaviors by ensuring that these offenders are given effective mental health services through the recommended policy. In conclusion, World War II projected a great effect on American society, especially on factors considering the freedom and rights of women and an increase in rates of crimes due to available warfare artifacts World War II Effect On American Society Essay Paper
