During the Covid pandemic, existential failures of our current system have further amplified the need for healthcare reform in the country. Investor ownership of the US health care system has grown over the last 50 years thanks to close ties with Wall Street cooperate interests (Geyman, 2021). This type of ownership has resulted in harmful practices and impacts on access to affordable care, quality, and profiteering with little to no accountability (Geyman, 2021). The uncontrolled cost of care can be traced to profit-driven, intestor-owned interests (Geyman, 2021). In particular, these practices have hurt patients in the midst of a global pandemic and economic downturn and highlights the need for healthcare reform.
