The increasingly changing dynamics in care delivery have impacted the way professionals work. Despite their different qualifications and roles, advocacy for collaborative care has led to collaboration among APRNs and physicians, clinicians and other healthcare workers (Schadewaldt et al., 2019). While the individual state policies define working relationships, the objective of quality, safe, evidence and patient-based care has prompted APRNs and other care providers such as Dos, MDs and physicians. This paper provides a discussion forum responding to the working relationship between APRNS, physicians and other professionals in the health sector. APRNs can utilize evidence-based practice in evaluating available evidence and research and making qualitative or quantitative decisions for patient care (McGilton et al., 2023). The APRNs’ adoption of the EBP guidelines provides them with a reliable model in which they can conduct their research, note the outcomes of different care practices and hence inform their decision-making. On the other hand, the guidelines provide a designed approach to summarize the obtained evidence, focusing on addressing a specific question regarding a medical condition. It helps the APRNs understand and define the question, patient/population, intervention, comparison and focused outcome.
Physicians (Dos and MDs) and APRNs are held to similar evidence-based standards regarding providing quality care (Schadewaldt et al., 2019). With the focus being on building evidence-founded, safe and quality care, the two professionals are held to the same standards of EBP. With the focus being on building care founded on scientific evidence and factoring patient preference, the focus is established to achieve the best possible care outcome. The individual state determines the independent and autonomous aspect of APRNs’ practice. According to McGilton et al. (2023), nurse practitioners in states defined as full practice are allowed to establish and operate their independent practice as physicians do. In states with a reduced role, they can only diagnose and treat patients but with the oversight of a physician to prescribe medications.
A collaborative practice agreement is a written statement defining the aspects of joint practice between a physician and APRN in complementary and collaborative working relations. The agreement contains the parties involved, the scope of practice of the APRNs concerning diagnosis and patient treatment, nurses’ scope regarding prescription, reference of the practice protocols, need for documentation and availability of overseeing and oversight requirements. However, the collaborative agreement varies from state to state. Nurse practitioners must note that in case of a change of practice location, collaborating physician and employment, the practice agreement must be updated (McGilton et al., 2023). In cases where an NP owns his practice and engages the services of a physician who, in his case, is self-employed to the collaborator in the case, the NP then is required to pay the physician on agreed terms, either an hourly rate or a set of fees per year. State policy, where the NP plan to operate their service and the content of their collaborative relationship, defines the amount the NP will be expected to pay the MD.
As healthcare shifts towards collaborative and team-based care, APRNs can factor in and incorporate consultations with their supervising physicians. This is through open communication with non-hierarchical partnerships between the two professionals as well as through team discussion, Changing Dynamics in Care Delivery Essay Assignment
