My name is Kellie Vanliew and I have been an RN for 5 years.  Prior to that I was a Surgical Tech.  I am a lifelong resident of Texas, and I currently am a OR Circulating nurse in California.  I earned my BSN through Walden University in 2022.  I am wanting to work with the elderly and hospice patients after earning my AGPCNP.  I decided on this because I live in a very rural area and it takes some time for changes in healthcare to reach the people there.

Walden’s vision, mission, goals, and social change initiatives relate to me and my goals because I also want to bring in more diverse and modern ideas to provide better and more attainable care for the elderly.  I truly believe that I can help make a difference in the care that our elderly and dying patients need. I believe that the Walden MSN Program Outcomes and perspectives relate to my goals because I want to bring new ideas and more modern and up to date treatment and care to my patients.  Healthcare is an everchanging cycle, but unfortunately changes take longer to reach rural areas and I hope to be a part of that change.  People that live where I do tend to take advice better from someone that is from the same area, and I want to be available for them to have that.

Networking is crucial when working in healthcare.  So many of us have access to different techniques and ideas.  The larger the network that we can create the more options and resources we have.  When we have a network we can combine ideas and suggestions and mold it to fit the area or the patient or the situation that we are caring for.
