Question: Analyze the process of research translation into practice through a summary of the translational science or theoretical model you selected to support your project implementation. Include the major phases or constructs of the model in your explanation.

Answer:
The Knowledge-to-Action (KTA) framework, developed by Graham et al. (2006), is a prominent translational model designed to close the gap between knowledge generation and practical application in healthcare settings. It consists of two major components:

• Knowledge Creation: This involves producing and synthesizing research findings, then developing practical tools or guidelines that can be integrated into real-world settings. The focus is on ensuring that knowledge products are usable, accessible, and adaptable.

• Action Cycle: This stage emphasizes applying research evidence to practice by identifying barriers, tailoring interventions to the local context, implementing change, monitoring progress, and ensuring sustainability through continuous evaluation.

In this project, the KTA framework underpins the WHO multimodal hand hygiene strategy, providing a systematic structure for incorporating research evidence into emergency room practices. This approach ensures that evidence-based improvements in hand hygiene are effectively adopted and maintained over time through behavioral reinforcement and institutional support.

Integration of KTA Framework with WHO Multimodal Hand Hygiene Strategy

This alignment between the KTA framework and the WHO strategy supports effective translation of knowledge into practice, enhances the sustainability of improved hand hygiene behaviors, and fosters a culture centered on patient safety and accountability (WHO, 2009; WHO, 2021).

Response to Peer: Structured Communication Framework

Question: What structured communication framework are you implementing in your project?

Answer:
I observed that you plan to implement TeamSTEPPS as your structured communication model. TeamSTEPPS, an evidence-based program developed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), aims to improve collaboration and communication within healthcare teams. It incorporates standardized tools such as SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) for structured communication and I PASS THE BATON for seamless hand-offs, both of which reduce errors during care transitions (AHRQ, 2020).

Potential Barriers: Resistance among staff to consistently adopt structured communication tools and insufficient training opportunities may hinder implementation.

Facilitators: Designating “unit champions,” conducting regular team rounds, and reinforcing effective communication behaviors can improve adherence and promote long-term sustainability.

Addressing these barriers proactively while utilizing facilitators can enhance teamwork, strengthen information exchange, and improve patient safety outcomes (Wende et al., 2022).
