Clinical operations has been one of my long-term desired skills since I was young. I have always enjoyed serving patients by providing them with high-quality healthcare services. In daily operations in a hospital acute care, my services are significant with a rate of 5-6 pt in every shift I am assigned. I ensure the quality of services in my working environment through being a dedicated clinician. Additionally, patients enjoy my services due to my efficacy in my duties and effectiveness. Patients are happy and enjoy receiving good care because I demonstrate empathy and help them through the recovery journey.

Additionally, I am motivated to work as a clinical member through the recognition I receive at the workplace as the employee of the week and month by my patients and the institution. As a result, I am in a position to handle stress and ensure a priority for my patients. 

There are several factors that make a team effective and make them achieve their desired outcome. These factors should be ensured in the healthcare industry to guarantee quality healthcare. First, the nurses should ensure effective communication between themselves and the patients. Through effective communication, the nurses are able to understand the needs of the patients and the medications they need. As a result, they end up providing effective care to the patients. Another strategy is ensuring that they educate patients on how to take care of their health (Buljac-Samardzic, Doekhie & van Wijngaarden, 2020). Educating patients ensures that they will be able to take the responsibility of promoting their health. 

On the other hand, when nurses fail to communicate effectively, this may result in negative results in patients. Lack of communication may result in medication errors since there is no flow of information from one person to the other. For example, a patient should communicate with the nurses to give information about their illness history. This will enable proper medication since the medical staff will have better information. Ignorance is also another factor that causes poor patient outcomes in healthcare (Rosen et al., 2018). When nurses ignore trivial patient issues, the patient’s condition may deteriorate and, therefore, increase the burden of caring for patients.

What makes a team, a team 

          Many themes work together to have a good collaboration between and within teams. I have experience from my participation in working with two hospital organizations. It was very enriching and powerful to see how well the teams collaborated and how by working together outcomes were much more positive for each different role played within the team. I have also seen the opposite in effect. When there is a team that does not work well together due to a lack of trust, or egos, it shows not only to those outside of the team but also to the patients who work with them. 

Effective clinical team 

          Effective clinical teamwork is one where each nurse does not look at their job as separate from others, they don’t consider themselves to be better than another nurse regardless of how long they have been a nurse. Effective teams are collaborative with multidisciplinary teams who are working with the same patients. Teams that are willing to work with a resident, student, coworker, and others that are made up of a care team trust each other’s abilities, have more knowledge as a team than as a single person, and are willing to collaborate to find the best treatment for a patient (Pinilla et al, 2020). In my current position where I work, we are constantly reminded that we all are there to work as a team whether a doctor, hospitalist, technician, or housekeeping.  The benefits of managing network support allow students to achieve their learning outcomes, build confidence, and expose them to other opportunities for learning (Pinilla et al., 2020). 

Ineffective clinical team 

          My experience in a hospital with an ineffective clinical team involved doctors and nurses who tended to spend time in their perspective teams i.e., doctors stayed with doctors and nurses stayed with nurses.  There was animosity between staff nurses and travel nurses, as well as fear from nurses when working with specific doctors.  Many times, the nurses who felt less confident would be further insecure with no assistance from those nurses who were more confident and had more experience.  The students felt very unwelcome, and there was a lot of gossips among the staff. Clinical team effectiveness is best when residents can integrate students within the teams, and facilitate meaningful entrustment opportunities to allow the student to learn more and build confidence (Pinilla et al., 2020).  Lack of understanding of the differences between the amount of time team members spend working together and those that are not able to do so can affect the outcome of an effective clinical working team (Wee et al., 2023).  

Conclusion 

Working as a team builds confidence with newer staff in their new profession, and it shows to the patients or customers a well-run company or practice that respects and listens to patients’ needs establishing strong trust.
