You have written your entire report in a professional and articulate way and bravo to you. From your discussion, your choice of a peer-reviewed article for Home Healthcare Now is highly relevant to your field of practice, and your explanation of the article’s scope and purpose is clear and concise. Reading through your post, I feel that you have done an excellent job of describing your search process in the Walden university library and database system. I am especially impressed by your method of searching for the article whereby you first select the key words and phrases and these use the Boolean items to filter through your search results and end up with relevant and high quality article (Tingen et al., 2019). A key suggestion I would make is to expand on the specific characteristics and qualifications of a successful home healthcare nurse (Riekert, 2021). While you mentioned that the article discusses these aspects, it would be helpful for readers to have a better understanding of what these qualities are and how they contribute to high-quality, person-cantered care. Further on the same, you could consider including any insights or personal experiences you have had in your practice that align with these characteristics. Furthermore, your recommendation of the database to your peers is an excellent idea and is helpful in aiding readers Identify evidence-based clinical guidelines and recommendations to improve their nursing practice. Sharing of resources for example your database of choice promotes evidence-based practice ultimately contributing to the improvement of patient outcomes (Riekert, 2021)Peer-Reviewed Article For Home Healthcare Essay Paper. In a few words, your post is informative and well-written, and your recommendation of the Walden university library and database system is valuable for other learners in the university and colleagues in the nursing field.

Discussion Post 2
I appreciate your post discussing the article by Xiang and Cheng (2019) and your approach to identifying and analyzing peer-reviewed research. You have also recommended that students should consider using the ProQuest Central database in research majorly because of its search and filtering tools and capabilities. I also submit that your suggestion of trying variations of search terms and putting key phrases into quotes to better target the search is a helpful tip for others searching for relevant articles. An issue you raised that especially resonates with many students and which I totally agree with is the use of the concepts presented in an article to assess its value (Jokelainen et al., 2019). In terms of evaluating the quality of peer-reviewed research, something I could add is that the academic affiliations of authors are useful in assessing the quality of an article. Importantly, one must consider the research methods used, the sample size and representativeness, and the validity and reliability of the measures used (Jokelainen et al., 2019)Peer-Reviewed Article For Home Healthcare Essay Paper. In my opinion, it may also be beneficial to look for meta-analyses or systematic reviews that summarize and critically evaluate multiple studies on a particular topic. Focusing on your selected database of choice, the ProQuest Central database, I recommend the use Cochrane Library as a supplement for research especially for healthcare professionals looking for high-quality, evidence-based research. According to Zahra, the Cochrane Library is a collection of systematic reviews and meta-analyses that provide rigorous evaluations of the effectiveness of healthcare interventions. In a nutshell, I laud your thoughtful and thorough approach to identifying and analyzing peer-reviewed research and your emphasis on its relevance to professional practice.

Discussion post 1
The peer-reviewed article that I chose that pertains to my practice is one published for Home Healthcare Now, written by Riekert (2021), titled “The Home Healthcare Nurse: A Concept Analysis.” I chose the field of home health as the focus for my peer-reviewed research article because this is the field where I have a lot of experience. It is also the field that I eventually may pursue as a future management career in nursing. This article talks about what the scope of a home health care nurse looks like, as well as what kind of characteristics they have any qualifications they may need to be successful and to be able to provide high-quality, person-centered care.
I utilized the Walden university library and database system to locate this article. I did not have much difficulty in searching for the article. I utilized the search feature and typed in pertinent keywords, such as “home health” and “nurse manager.” I also made sure to adjust the date so that only recent articles would appear in my search results. I think that this database would be useful to my colleagues. In addition to locating relevant peer reviewed research for academic purposes, it can also help identify empirical and evidence-based clinical guidelines and recommendations for nurses, which can be applied in their nursing practice to improve their capacity of providing high-quality care (Tingen, et al., 2019)Peer-Reviewed Article For Home Healthcare Essay Paper. This database was also easy to use and I was able to find relevant and useful research very quickly. As a result, I would definitely recommend it to my peers.

iang, X., & Cheng, J. (2019). Trajectories of major depression in middle‐aged and older adults: A population‐based study. International Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry, 34(10), 1506-1514. Peer-Reviewed Article For Home Healthcare Essay Paper
This article was located through the Walden Library and the ProQuest Central database. The search terms “identifying major depression ‘older adults’” were used, with results limited to peer-reviewed articles from the past five years. My colleagues would likely find this database useful because it contains a very wide variety of scholarly journals, making it a good tool for locating information. I would recommend it because it has excellent search and filtering tools. My suggestion for using it would be to try variations of search terms and to put key phrases into quotes to better target the search. The strategies presented in this Module’s Learning Resources also provide helpful guidance on locating and analyzing research.
Professional Practice Use
One professional practice use of the concepts presented in this article relates to identifying major depression in persons over the age of 50. The article focuses on the 50 and older adult population and investigates different trajectories of depression within this population. On the basis of quantitative data collected from 15,661 participants using the Composite International Diagnostic Interview (CIDI‐SF), the researchers identified four trajectories of major depression in this population: never depressed, worsening depression, lessening depression, and persistently moderate or high depression. This highlights the importance, in professional practice, of not only identifying major depression in persons over 50, but also identifying the individual’s trajectory of depressive symptoms.
Justification
I would recommend the article by Xiang and Cheng (2019) to inform professional practice. It highlights the significance of considering not only current depressive symptoms and the possibility of a major depression diagnosis among persons over 50, but also the trajectory of depression. The trajectory of depressive symptoms is an important matter, as there may be different considerations for an individual who has persistent, moderate depression symptoms versus one who has worsening symptoms. The identification of risk factors for unfavorable trajectories—the initial severity of symptoms, and chronic disease burden—is also notable because it can help to identify individuals who may be at increased risk for negative outcomes Peer-Reviewed Article For Home Healthcare Essay Paper.
Summary of Analysis
My overall approach to identifying and analyzing peer-reviewed research is to seek out high-quality articles and then evaluate them critically. Database search filter options often make it possible to limit results to recent, peer-reviewed research. Not all of this, though, is of the same quality. Evaluating search results critically is necessary to determine which are both high-quality and useful. Many articles list the academic affiliations of their authors, which can be useful for quick assessments of quality.
One strategy that I would use that I have found to be effective in finding peer-reviewed research is utilizing scholarly databases such as ProQuest. This is a good way to locate articles in scholarly journals that may require university library privileges to access. These databases often include a filter option so that only peer-reviewed results are returned. A second strategy that I have found to be effective is trying a variety of different search terms and combinations, including key phrases that are contained in quotation marks. In some cases, it may take multiple searches to identify the best key words or key phrases to include to appropriately limit the results. Putting key phrases in quotation marks limits the results by excluding articles that may contain the words of the phrase but not the phrase itself. The more limited the results are, the easier it is to locate a suitable article.

In addition to using ProQuest, one resource I intend to use in the future to find peer-reviewed research is the PubMed database (https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/Links to an external site.). This database can be useful for locating peer-reviewed articles that are published in medical or health-related journals. PubMed generally does not offer full-text versions of these articles. However, once an article has been located, it may be possible to find the full-text version through other databases. Some potentially relevant articles located in this way include one by Jokelainen et al. (2019) and another by Kim et al. (2021)Peer-Reviewed Article For Home Healthcare Essay Paper.
