Another important concept of this lesson is the repetition of words in a passage to enable the author to emphasize key areas. The passage’s author used various terms and concepts to deliver the intended message. Open-grazing days as used in the passage, means a period when land use was not restricted, and individuals could graze their animals or pass anywhere. The author also uses the term grave, an area where a dead person’s body is buried. Lastly, emotion, as used in the passage, is a strong feeling of sorrow or sadness that derives the author from the current mood.
The concept that made the least sense to me in this lesson is marking observations or associations while reading the passage. The author expresses a flow of thoughts in the passage to explain the incidents to the target audience. However, the ideas expressed in the passage might differ from each other. Therefore, it is challenging for the reader to identify associations while reading the passage.
