Clearly, diagnosis is a critical aspect of healthcare. However, the ultimate purpose of a diagnosis is the development and application of a series of treatments or protocols. Isolated recognition of a health issue does little to resolve it.
In this moduleâ€s Discussion, you applied the Clark Healthy Workplace Inventory to diagnose potential problems with the civility of your organization. In this Portfolio Assignment, you will continue to analyze the results and apply published research to the development of a proposed treatment for any issues uncovered by the assessment.
To Prepare: Workplace Environment Assessment Essay Assignment
• Review the Resources and examine the Clark Healthy Workplace Inventory, found on page 20 of Clark (2015).
• Review the Work Environment Assessment Template*.
• Reflect on the output of your Discussion post regarding your evaluation of workplace civility and the feedback received from colleagues.

I received a score of 58/100 on the Clark Healthy Workplace Inventory assessment. My workplace is considered to be unhealthy and I am pretty neutral to that assessment. I am not surprised by this score because I do believe there is a lot of work to be done in regards to communication between staff and management. Nurses have been put in many unsafe situations due to the acuity of patients and staffing. Our licenses are constantly on the line due to insufficient staffing and that is another reason why I would not consider my workplace to be civil.
Civility in the workplace is key to being successful and increasing the quality of care we provide to our patients. If nurses are constantly stressed out in the work place, it is close to impossible to achieve civility (Clark et al. 2011). When incivility occurs in the workplace, it is imperative to speak on it as soon as possible as well as in a civil environment. Conflict must be manged in a respectable and mature manner in order for both parties to be heard (Clark, 2015). I experienced incivilty in my workplace and I do not think it was resolved in a civil manner at all. I called for my tech to delegate a task to her, while I was in the patient’s room. I am not sure why but the tech seemed to have an attitude and she said a snarky comment to me in front of my patient. I am not sure why that occurred, especially in front of my patient. After the tech left, my patient asked me if I was okay. It is one thing to be snarky behind closed doors and another thing to do it in front of patients I brought this situation up to my manager and she said she will talk to the tech. I never received an apology from this tech nor do I feel like I was heard when I spoke to my manager. I believe that when issues are brought up between staff, they are swept under the rug. This contributes to the incivility of my workplace. I truly do believe if our voices were heard more and staffing ratios were better, civility can be achieved in my workplace.
